Glebe Mountain Gardens on Route 121 in Londonderry is open for the season, with several new feartures.
Several garden centers in the area have noted that, perhaps due to the economy, more people are getting into vegetable, berry and fruit tree gardening. Martha Cowles, who owns and operates Glebe Mountain with her husband Curt, said it seems to be true for them as well.
“We’ve only just opened, so I don’t know for sure,” she said, “but we’ve certainly gotten a lot more phone calls already asking about fruit trees and berries.”
In addition to perrennials, trees, shrubs and annuals, the center also has organic vegetables that they start themselves, using organic seeds, soils and fertilizers. This year, to meet the gardening demand, they have added organic seed potatoes, onions and shallots.
The Cowles have also done landscaping since 1996, and their beautiful garden center shows it, with new features being added every year.
